You are not broken.

Welcome to
HEAVERLO COUNSELING
You are not broken; that’s the starting point.
Therapy is a personalized journey tailored just for you, where support and guidance meet discovery and growth. It’s the first step to calming your mind and unpacking the overwhelming emotions that have been sitting on your shoulders, holding you back. Here, you’ll face the things you've been avoiding out of fear and uncertainty, all while learning to let go of the exhausting desire to control every little thing. With each session, you'll build trust in yourself and explore new strategies to set boundaries without guilt. Imagine feeling the confidence to express your needs and get them met in healthy, fulfilling ways. This is your journey of the self, through the self, to the self.
We dive deep into understanding your current habits of mind. Through tools like mindfulness and self-reflection, you’ll start to notice patterns that might be holding you back. It’s like turning on the lights in a dimly lit room; here’s how:
Develop Awareness: Together, we’ll identify the situations, feelings, or thoughts that trigger unwanted behaviors. This step is like being a detective in your own life—enlightening the patterns of your stress or anxiety.
Non-Judgmental Stance: Noticing without judgment, finding acceptance, and being with what is without immediately rushing to change things. This takes a lot of practice and self-compassion. It is essential; I’ll teach you how.
Practice New Skills and Brain Change: We’ll explore healthy coping skills tailored just for you. Whether it’s mindfulness exercises, breathing techniques, or creative outlets, together we’ll build your toolbox for life's little (or big) hurtles.
Setting Achievable Goals: We'll break changes into bite-sized pieces by setting realistic and achievable goals. Think of it as building your own staircase—one step at a time leads you to the top without overwhelming you!
Accountability: Regular check-ins and support are key. I’ll be here to celebrate your wins, no matter how small, and help you navigate any setbacks. Together, we become a dream team on a mission for your mental wellness!
Building your Natural and Community Support: As you make progress, we’ll review what’s working and look to build the rest of your team. This allows you to stay flexible and adapt; it’s the long-term plan for your success after therapy is no longer needed.
Celebrate Your Success: Finally, let’s take a moment to celebrate your achievements! Recognizing progress, big or small, reinforces positive change and keeps the motivation high. When we are climbing the mountain, it’s important to stop, breathe, look back, and enjoy the view of how far you’ve come!
By following these simple steps, you can expect results that lead to lasting change. The journey of self-transformation is a tough and rewarding process, you deserve to invest in you!
What People Are Saying
“Sarah helped me through so many difficult stages in my life! From grieving the loss of my parents, infertility, and a suicide attempt. She helped me learn how to take steps toward figuring out my purpose, and what was keeping me depressed. It was a LOT of work on both of our parts, I left a long-term job, and an even longer-term marriage, and I couldn't be happier! Sarah knows when to be your rock, apply tough love or simply cheer you on! I could not be where I am today without Sarah's amazing support and encouragement. I now have the tools to continue living a positive and successful life, and to see the danger signs and seek help if I slip. Thank you, Sarah!!!”
— Telehealth Client
“Sarah is a Gift. She has helped me work through many life struggles and past traumas. I have worked with her on two separate occasions. The most recent was for a few years. She is gentle but firm. Always caring and knows when to apply “tough love”. With her guidance I didn’t feel alone. She had a way to help lower life’s high hurdles. Made them easier to tackle while keeping an eye on the finish line. Day to day life is overwhelming. With Sarah in my corner I felt I could overcome my personal challenges. She helped me dust off and add tools to my mental health tool box so I can stand on my own.”
— Former Client
“Sarah is very down to earth, straightforward, and honest. She’s not going to sugarcoat things. She’s going to get to the core issue and try to teach you skills to navigate your life. She has helped me tremendously and I have great respect for her. Highly recommended.”
— Former Client, In-person and Telehealth
“Sarah has impacted my life tremendously, I am so thankful to have found her when I did! I came to her when I was in the middle of a separation and pursuing a divorce. She helped me process, grieve, and heal from an abusive marriage. With her help I was able to be healthy enough to start dating again. I looked forward to each visit with Sarah, excited to tell her about the new developments in my life. She is a great listener, and would sometimes even reminded me of things I had said in a prior session, helping me make connections that I was unaware of on my own. I was always so impressed with her feedback, it was so insightful and helpful! She helped me see things from different angles and helped widen my perspective of my life's journey. I had the best experience possible with Sarah, hands down one of the best counselors around!”

My goal is to create a space where acceptance and change coexist harmoniously; this is called the "middle path." I believe in fostering compassion and establishing healthy boundaries while also embracing the fluid nature of life.
Drawing from mindfulness and compassion practices, positive psychology, and insights from neuroscience, I integrate techniques such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), internal family systems (IFS), and Jungian psychology to enhance well-being. Together, we’ll navigate the rewarding, yet often challenging, path towards self-discovery.
